Scuba Diving with Smart COM
Computers
Janet
and Bob Townley have been certified scuba since 2004. They obtained their
advanced certification in 2006. To make diving safer they invested in
Smart COM diving computers. The computer is attached to your air tank
with a high pressure hose. The Smart COM tracks tank pressure,
depth, dive time, water temperature, decompression data, and other data
important to safe diving. The computer will give you audible and visual warnings
of an unsafe practice such as ascending too fast.
Data from the
Smart COM can be downloaded to a laptop or desktop computer
through an infrared port. The table below summarizes some of the data on Janet
and Bob's first two days of diving.

The
picture on the left is Janet diving in the Sea of Cortez.
She does an amazing job considering she is legally blind. We have modified her
mask so that she is able to read her dive computer. The natural 25%
magnification of the water helps her see the ocean life.
